EIA — the Environmental Impact Assessment for a pipeline route project

Contents of the EIA report to be taken into account by engineering design

"Impact of the pipeline on surface water and transverse streams"

1. Assessment of the up-to-date environmental status
  • Physiographic study of the area,
  • Background environmental characteristics,
  • Main sources of contaminants (except for pipelines)
2. Origins (natural and technogeneous) of possible flooding along the route
  • Climate conditions and climate changes,
  • River flow conditions and runoff generation,
  • Soil water properties (especially, its permeability),
  • Characterization of the technogeneous impact by pipeline construction.
3. Prediction of the possible changes in hydrological regimes after construction
  • Simulation of the surface flow and ground water regime,
  • Evaluation of the possible waste water release from the Gas Pumping Plants (GPPs)
4. List of necessary measures preventing (mitigating) the technogeneous disturbances of the water regimes by pipeline construction
5. Program of the environmental monitoring at the most vulnerable segments of the route
